If it has Quickstep, newcomers will have really tough times in PvP dealing with many dogged contenders. It needs a buff then, right? But what will happen if a dagger gets, say, 170 critical bonus and outdamages everything in that department? Well, it will be a new "meta". As a matter of fact, it is on the lower side in comparison to their bigger counterparts. But what buff exactly then? I personally do not know at all.Daggers are meant to be "critical powerhouse" with their increase in riposte and backstab damage. Stab, slash, slash, slash, slashĭaggers at this point are a pure utilitary weapon class: Quickstep for fat-roll instances, Parry for punishing that afterroll attack, etc.It definitely needs a buff of some sort. Also, it can't be used while knocked down like dodge can.All in all, daggers don't get as much credit as they deserve. Quickstep is faster than dodge, has more invincibility frames, allows you to attack more quickly after using it and can be used with no FP, though it does use a small amount of FP if you have any. The biggest benefits the UGS has against the dagger is you only need to land one shot and it's likely going to stunlock, leading to a second attack. My final piece for daggers is the quickstep special and I'll keep it short. Obviously my numbers aren't taking physical and elemental resistances into account and they are rounded numbers but there's not a huge difference in damage output at the end of the attack. The UGS likely deals 500 to 550 damage per swing while the dagger could be around 120 to 130 and attacks two and a half times per UGS attack. Take an ultra great sword for example against a quick dagger. This means that you can deal that extra 85 to 130 damage (whatever amount you buff for) much more often than other weapons. The nice thing about daggers and spell buffs is that the spell buff does a set amount of damage per attack and daggers attack quickly. Alternately, using the bandit's knife with hollow infusion, high luck and bleed resin is another good way to inflict bleed while dealing moderate damage as well.Being a caster and giving daggers a spell buff like (great/crystal) magic weapon, lightning, or whatever spells you're using is a great way to deal backup damage when low on FP and ashen estus. What I mean by that is they require buffs from magic or status effects like bleed or poison to be effective. If you look at the brigand twin daggers, infusing them with bleed damage gives them the best base bleed buildup of any weapons, especially because of their quick attack and hitting twice per hit. Most people don't realize that daggers aren't meant to be used by themselves. Even with high scaling, they don't do as much damage per second as other weapons. I notice a lot of people aren't particularly fond of daggers because of their low base damage. I will await you there, in the End of the World, and we shall fight eternal, shiny and incandescence. Welcome to the Gael’s Sunset Arena, the most beautiful map in the entire series, the last arena at the End of World.
